SUMMARY:The Sweet Nola's Po Boys • Sir Barton Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:Sweet Nola’s \nThe Sweet Nola’s Po Boys are back again this season at the CCFM for our free concert series. Created by Daniel “D.K” Kelly II in early 2017 under the supervision of Cheryl Ash of Sweet Nola’s Southern Food Lounge\, the Sweet Nola’s Po’ Boys are an eclectic blend of new and old jazz. Currently led by Jacob Pembelton\, the group’s sound resembles that of early New Orleans musicians\, such as Bix Beiderbecke\, Sidney Bechet\, and Louis Armstrong. Though occasionally they can be heard playing around the Northern Shenandoah Valley and now D.C. area\, you can always catch the Po’ Boys at Sweet Nola’s Southern Food Lounge in downtown Winchester. With Libby Beller (Clarinet)\, Quinn Sherman(drums)\, and Jacob Pembelton (bass)\, the trio dabbles into tunes of the past by bringing their own modern colors and textures. \nOver the course of 32 days in 1919\, Sir Barton solidified his place in history as one of the greatest racehorses of all time. Sir Barton was the first of the 11 Triple Crown winners\, although the series was not defined as such until the 1930s. When Sir Barton won the three races\, the Preakness Stakes was run at 1 1/8 miles\, the Belmont at 1 3/8 miles\, and the Kentucky Derby at its present distance of 1 1/4 miles. By the time Gallant Fox became the second Triple Crown winner\, 11 years later in 1930\, the distance of both the Preakness and Belmont had been changed to its present-day 1 3/16 miles and 1 1/2 miles\, respectively. Jennifer S. Kelly will be on site to sign your copy. Jennifer is a lifelong horse racing fan using her experience as a writing instructor and technical writer to chronicle and preserve the history of her favorite sport\, especially the Triple Crown. For more information about the project visit The Sir Barton Project.

SUMMARY:Brendan Mulvihill and Clara Poffenberger at the CCFM
DESCRIPTION:On July 28\, 2018 the Clarke County Farmers Market will host Brendan Mulvihill and Clara Poffenberger as part of their free music at the market series. \nBorn in Northampton\, England in 1954\, world-class fiddler Brendan Mulvihill immigrated to New York when he was eleven. On the night of his arrival in the states\, Mulvihill attended an Irish music session\, and from that moment on he dedicated his life to playing Irish music. \nAt the age of seventeen\, Mulvihill moved back to England\, where he stayed for years playing with the Birmingham Ceili Band. In the next few years\, Mulvihill won both the junior and senior All-Ireland fiddle championships as well as the Senior All-Ireland duet with Brooklyn-born accordionist and friend Billy McComiskey. \nIn 1975\, Mulvihill returned to New York and began playing with McComiskey and Co. Kerry immigrant Andy O’Brien\, forming the trio The Irish Tradition. The trio moved to the Washington D.C. area after a few gigs\, and has been based there ever since. They have since been accredited with establishing the area’s rich Irish cultural life that has blossomed since the trio’s arrival. \nAfter several years and more albums\, the trio disbanded\, though stayed in the D.C/Baltimore area. In the time that followed\, Mulvihill played with musicians such as Paddy Keenan\, Martin Hayes\, and John Williams before touring with pianist Donna Long as part of the Masters of the Folk Violin Tour. Specials with PBS and NPR\, White House performances\, and a stint with the Green Fields of America all-star tour followed. \n \nhttps://youtu.be/SSO_47oyMp4 \n

SUMMARY:The Plate Scrapers at the CCFM - 2nd Annual Geveva Jackson Pie Baking Contest
DESCRIPTION:Saturday July 21\, 2018 the Clarke County Farmers Market will host their second annual Geneva Jackson Pie Baking Contest. This contest was very well attended last season and hope to have a bigger attendance this year. Bring your best pie \nThe CCFM free music concert series will host The Plate Scrapers as well. \nThe Plate Scrapers originated in 2014 in western Maryland the way any good bluegrass band does: from a bunch of fellers pickin’ around in a circle\, surrounded by delicious plates of food\, strong libations\, and good friends. The traditional spirit of The Plate Scrapers is still innately intact nearly half a decade later\, though they have evolved into far more than your average bluegrass band. Through diverse backgrounds and influences ranging from jazz\, to hard rock\, to funk\, the band has taken their music to an eclectic new level. \nThe Plate Scrapers’ songwriting is the identifying characteristic of the band. Complimenting writing styles from multiple members offer a tasteful balance and refreshing diversity to their sound\, a diversity which they thoroughly excersize. Folksy lyrics of songs like “Shoes” or “Moonlight” call to a time of friendship\, nostalgia and adventure\, while songs like “Trucker’s Aspirin” or “Easy Way Out” are darker tales\, gritty in nature. \nCrafted musicianship and creative chemistry on stage guarantees that each performance is a new experience. More recently\, the band has been known to take advantage of the sound shaping tools of modern music to enhance their traditional folk instruments whether it results in a screaming dobro or a sonically-warping banjo. Fans and critics alike agree that things are moving in a positive direction for The Plate Scrapers. \nThe Plate Scrapers are currently working on their third studio record\, with new and different material\, and are setting their sites on touring the Western US in the near future. These guys are committed to what they do and have no intentions of slowing down. \nAlbum Releases: Live at Moonshadow (2014)\, Contact (2015)\, Dishes (2016)\, Live at VOMA (2016) \nDirect Support: The Seldom Scene\, Keller Williams\, Hot Buttered Rum\, Larry Keel\, Cornmeal\, WeBanjo3 \nRadio: WAMU Bluegrass Country\, WDVX Blue Plate Special \n \n \n

SUMMARY:Sally Mae Foster at the CCFM - Relay for Life Cancer Awareness
DESCRIPTION:The free music concert series at the Clarke County Farmers Market will be host to Sally Mae Foster. This week we will also be raising money for the Relay for Life. Expect special activities associated with this group. \nSally Mae Foster- \nA one woman show that often invites friends to join in the fun\, Sally Mae Foster has been charming audiences with her antics for over a decade. And it isn’t hard to see why. Who isn’t a little bit amused by the idea of a girl who does four things at once to a fairly good rhythm? Foster tends to attempt the impossible with her range and abilities and is always looking out for the next corner of the envelope to push. And when she isn’t doing that she is indulging in her guilty pleasure… 80’s covers. Apart from her musical pursuits\, she is usually simply taking life one day at a time with a mindful look at food\, lifestyle and purposeful parenting.

SUMMARY:Diablo Dimes at the CCFM
DESCRIPTION:“Home Base: Shenandoah Valley\, Virginia \n“Storyville Balladeerin’ Dixie Boxcar Ridin’ Funeral Stompin’ Tearjerk Moanin’ Frolic Jumpin’ Moonshine Hollerin’ Roots Music!” \nThat’s how the uncommonly talented Diablo Dimes self-describes the sound that he and his Dixie Deacons bring from deep within the belly of the Shenandoah Valley. And while that description does it some justice\, the inspired\, gravel-voiced troubadour’s sound truly must be heard to be properly understood (or really\, properly felt). \nHe’s brought his fresh\, deep\, primitive vision of the Americana aesthetic to stages and dives all across the country\, warming up crowds for the likes of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band\, Preservation Hall Jazz Band\, Yard Dogs Road Show\, and Jane’s Addiction. \nNow\, the Blues & Jazz Fest crowd gets a chance to experience raw\, impassioned music – for which many only wish they had the muse. – Ryan Smith \nRIYL: Scott H. SUMMARY:CCFM Grand Opening With Maddi Mae - Face Painting - Paw Patrol
DESCRIPTION: \n\nThe grand opening of the season May 5\, 2018. Come listen to Maddi Mae and join in the children’s activities. Paw Patrol will be making a guest apperance and there will be face painting for the kids. \n“On ‘Can’t Bear to Say\,’ guest singer Maddi Mae Hicks adds a powerful element to Mudge’s compositional chops. Her voice is powerful\, at times lighter than air at others dense and resolute\, but always full and perfectly on key. The harmonies are perfectly effective\, adding emphasis where needed without overpowering the instrumentation that sits as the root of the song. The entire song swoons and sways as a unit\, everything working together like a perfectly planned and executed multi-course meal.” \nMikhail Schilkey – Indie Music Album Review for No More Division\n\n\n“She’s a local artist who plays the guitar with an intuitive spirit\, writes lyrics that spill directly from her soul\, and sings like a tortured angel.” \nKrysta Norman – Norman Photography & Paperie\n\n\n“Warrenton’s music scene has produced some notable hometown bands like Street Legal\, Brother Bill\, The Elizabeth Lawrence Band and now Maddi Mae. She has a hypnotizing voice\, a passion for empowering girls through music and a resilient life story based around following her musical dreams.” \nKrysta Norman – The Warrenton Lifestyle Magazine\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n
